Blog 10: When You Don’t Know Your Purpose, You Drift.

November 23, 20254 min read

If you haven’t found your purpose yet, this one’s going to hit home.

Because when you don’t know why you wake up every day — you end up chasing all the wrong things: validation, relationships, or distractions.

I’ve lived that life.

The one where emotions lead, decisions follow, and regret sits quietly in the corner waiting for you to notice.

But the truth is, purpose isn’t about chasing a feeling.

It’s not about passion, or paychecks, or even titles.

Purpose is obedience to your calling — and you can’t walk in it until you learn to control your mind.

The Hard Truth About Control

You can’t win in life if you can’t control your mind.

Your emotions will change every hour, but your discipline determines your destiny.

When I was younger, I lived by my emotions. I reacted quickly, spoke before I thought, and chased whatever “felt right” in the moment.

It took me years to realize that self-control isn’t about suppressing who you are — it’s about mastering your inner world so you can actually fulfill what God put you here to do.

Discipline and consistency are the bridge between where you are and where God is taking you.

Passion Fades. Purposes Stains

There’s a difference between passion and purpose.

Passion is a feeling — purpose is fulfillment.

Your passion might light you up.

But your purpose lights other people up.

It’s what pulls you out of bed on the hard days and gives meaning to your pain.

I used to believe being a mom was my only purpose.

It wasn’t until later that I realized God had called me to something beyond motherhood — to teach, to speak, to help people heal.

And that calling only surfaced when I stopped living by my emotions and started living by discipline.

The Cost of living without purpose

When you’re not living your purpose, three dangerous things happen:

  1. You Drift.

You go through the motions, disconnected from your potential. You survive instead of live.

  2. You Get Distracted.

Every new person, opportunity, or “fun idea” pulls you off track. You can’t tell what’s divine and what’s a detour.

  3. You Become Emotionally Unstable.

Other people’s moods start controlling yours. You overreact, overthink, and overgive.

Living without purpose keeps you stuck in cycles that feel busy but lead nowhere.

And distraction isn’t always the devil’s weapon — sometimes it’s just comfort disguised as progress.

God Hide's your Purpose in your Pain

One of my favorite verses is Romans 8:28 —

“All things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose.”

It’s wild to think that the very pain you try to hide from might be the platform God wants to use.

For years, I carried shame, betrayal, and heartbreak — and tried to numb it all away.

But that pain became the foundation of my purpose.

The heartbreak taught me empathy.

The waiting taught me trust.

The isolation taught me obedience.

God doesn’t waste pain.

He transforms it.

Purpose Prepares You for What’s Next

Your purpose is preparing you for the next person, the next season, and the next assignment.

Every test, every delay, every quiet stretch is divine training.

You’re not waiting on your next season — you’re being prepared for it.

The key is to stay consistent when no one’s watching.

Because discipline is choosing between what you want now and what you want most.

Isolation, discipline, and consistency are how you become strong enough to sustain the blessings coming your way.

And when you stop being distracted by what’s not meant for you, you make room for everything that is.

Key Takeaways

Purpose gives meaning to your pain.

Discipline protects your destiny.

You were made for something eternal — not temporary.

So ask yourself today:

Are you living in your purpose, or are you just surviving?
